The Tank Experts Blog

Boo Hoo

I am really upset right now because we are right about to leave the Leadership camp for the rest of the summer. =( =( =( I’ll talk later. Bye!

The Last Day =(

We found out that we would be doing very exciting things today. YEAH!! =) We get to make a movie of some organisms and baby bullfrogs that Mr. K caught this morning at 5:00!! We get to add music to it and everything. Then, we have to discuss  C.A.R.E.S (an organization that is protecting fish) on video. Then we get to do reef feeding at the tanks we set up a couple days ago. Then we get to clean out a 150 gallon fish tank. Gotta get to work. I’ll tell you later about our day.

Our Last Day =(

FishI am really upset because tomorrow is our last day. This week is a short one because of the 4th of July, and we came to our first day of camp a day after everyone else because we were moved here from Aqua Havens. So, we have had an even shorter week with Leadership!!! =(  I hope that on our last day we do a lot of fun stuff!!! Look at the cute fish! I put that there to remember the fun times I had with fish and other things.

Leadership

Mr. K just gave us a really hard challenge. We have to tell what leadership means to us and say it on video. I have an idea that I can say that leadership means influencing a group of people toward a goal or task. I hope that’s enough because I have no idea what else to say. I guess I’ll have to look online for some ideas. Except, I’d better hurry up with that because it has to be done before the end of tomorrow. Not that much time if you ask me! Well I’d better go look up leadership on Google!!! Bye!! =)

Yesterday……

Hi!!! Yesterday, at the end of the day, we had a visitor who owns an aquarium shop! He brought fish that we had been studying. Like …. clown fish, and sea urchins and other sea critters from the Indian Ocean . Guess what kind of sea critter we got? Just guess! SEAWEED! Yeah! How exciting!! There are little organisms living on it that we can see under a microscope.  It was really interesting  and exciting listening to him talk.  Bye!The Picture of Seaweed

Draining a 75 Gallon Tank!

Wow! Who knew that draining a 75 gallon tank would be such hard work!! =) It takes a lot of work and a lot of steps.

Step #

1. You must get as much of the decorations out of the tank so that the fish can not hide

2. Then, you must catch the fish. (Which is pretty tricky if you ask me)

3. You have to move the fish to their new location (in a bucket full of water from the tank they were in)

4. Then you have to drain the tank water into a trashcan (this way you can transfer that water into the tank that the fish will soon live in)

5. Next comes taking some gravel from the bottom, putting it into a bucket, and putting it into the new tank.

6. Then you have to put the water that was in the trashcan and put it into the new tank.

7. Also, you must make sure that the filter for the new tank is working and is cleaning the tank

8. Now finally, you can put the fish into the tank.

Our First Day

When we switched to the Leadership group, we first decided to work with fish, including catching cichlids for the Aqua Havens camp. Then, we worked with some other people to catch a female fish. After that, we got to drain out the tank using a pump and a sifter. We then got rid of all the gravel and decorations at the bottom of the tank using pitchers and our hands, and put them into buckets. Then we took the buckets outside to a hose, and we washed the gravel off the rocks. Also, we rinsed out the gravel to be used again.
