Shared Summits

     ECRC is proud to offer this action pack in full cooperation with the Earth Treks Climbing Centers, Inc. based in Columbia, Maryland. The Earth Treks professionals support both learning to climb programs and expeditions to major mountain peaks around the world. Their work and belief in youth has led to the creation and continued expansion of the Shared Summits Motivator Maps.

     In the words of Earth Treks President and world mountaineer Chris Warner, "Shared Summits goal is to encourage kids to slay dragons, cure diseases, fight poverty, or reach for the stars. Everest, although a cold and brutal place, graciously serves as a fitting metaphor for making any dream come true."

     For ECRC educators, Shared Summits provides participant leaders with the simulations to take participants to a place they have never gone - to the top of Mount Everest. They will explore the George Mallory mystery, consider the magnificent Sherpa people, experience ataxia, and hypothermia and undergo challenges to find out if they are fit to climb 8,000 meter peaks. Shared Summits links directly to the Earth Treks Climbing Centers' magnificent online journals of the mountaineering expeditions led by experts featured on our Motivator Maps. Like the journals, the Motivator Maps are written to inspire and motivate.
